We were super excited to install the award-winning local artist and arts educator Geoffrey Head‘s exhibition titled ‘Dynamic Landscape.’ Geoffrey recently won the top prize at The 47th Rio Tinto & QAL Martin Hanson Memorial Art Awards, held at the Gladstone Regional Art Gallery & Museum on Saturday, October 22, 2023.
Artist Statement – The natural environment behind my house has inspired my artwork for some time now. Through daily observation, I am always aware of the features, growth trends and movements of the vegetation growing there and the fragility of this ecosystem.
The freedom of this tract of land to flourish and survive in a now developed neighbourhood is to be encouraged and I am drawing attention to this through my work.
I record elements of the landscape by taking photographs and editing/abstracting/manipulating what is present using digital media. Colour is the most significant element in the works creating a sense of vitality, energy and excitement.
In this exhibition, the images have been translated into digital prints on paper celebrating this significant area of bushland”.
